Elena Toxica es una artista que a través de su obra nos obliga a reflexionar sobre la construcción de las identidades de género, nos pone sobre la mesa lo social de esta construcción enseñándonos otros modos de hacerlo. Es además una de las integrantes de Toxic Lesbian. Artista y activista, realiza sus proyectos desde perspectiva de género y orientación sexual, desde el campo del arte que es donde ella esta como artista visual.
“En la actualidad tengo 48 años, cuando yo empecé a investigar sobre el tema de orientación sexual, hace ya bastante, no se hablaba nada de identidad de género y desde luego de masculinidad no se hablaba nada en absoluto. Yo lo descubrí a partir de los 30 años, hace ya casi 20, y lógicamente fue a través de las autoras Queer: Butler, Judith Halberstam, también españoles como Platero… y me di cuenta de que había un montón de cosas que se atribuyen a orientación sexual que no tiene absolutamente nada que ver. La persona que me explicó realmente la diferencia entre estos dos términos (orientación sexual e identidad de género) fue Lucas Platero, con quien he tenido una amistad durante bastantes años, y hemos trabajado en varios de mis proyectos.”

Elena Toxica is an artist who through her work forces us to reflect on the construction of gender identities, puts us on the table the social of this construction teaching us other ways to do it. She is also one of the members of Toxic Lesbian. Artist and activist, she carries out her projects from a gender perspective and sexual orientation, from the field of art where she is as a visual artist.
“At the moment I am 48 years old, when I started to investigate on the subject of sexual orientation, quite a long time ago, there was no mention of gender identity and of course of masculinity nothing was said at all. The 30 years, almost 20 years ago, and logically it was through the authors Queer: Butler, Judith Halberstam, also Spaniards like Platero … and I realized that there were a lot of things that are attributed to sexual orientation that has absolutely nothing to do with it. The person who really explained me the difference between these two terms (sexual orientation and gender identity) was Lucas Platero, with whom I have had a friendship for many years, and we have worked on several of my projects. “
