SYNOPSIS
A short film about the invisibility of domestic violence. Whilst watching Super8 films about her seemingly idyllic German family life in the 1960s, the director’s grandmother Rose describes the reality of life with a violent husband. The film reflects on how images can conceal painful truths and how family narratives can be rewritten to confront trauma and seek healing.
BIO DIRECTOR:
ANNIKA Mayer is an editor and filmmaker based in Berlin. Annika studied editing at the Film University Konrad Wolf and holds a PhD in social anthropology. In 2019, she co-founded Majmun Films and developed numerous documentaries. She is the producer and (co)editor of LA ESPERA, PRIMER PAQUETE PARA HONDURAS and LO QUE QUEDA EN EL CAMINO, which have been screened at international festivals (including IFFR, Visions du Réel, Guanajuato International Film Festival, DokLeipzig, Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, Docs Against Gravity, Dokfest Munich, DocAviv, among others) and won several awards (including the German Cinematography Award). She is currently producing and editing the documentaries MAOMI, CARAVANERAS and THE GODS MUST BE MISTAKEN. Her debut as a director, the documentary HOME SWEET HOME, premiered at DokLeipzig in 2023.
