Almudena Carracedo is an internationally awarded documentary film director and producer who works on projects that reflect on social justice.
Her latest work, No estás sola, produced through her company Lucernam Films in collaboration with Robert Bahar, has been seen by millions on Netflix, staying in the global top 10 for non-English language films for two weeks. No estás sola was nominated for Best Documentary Film at the Goya Awards and has received numerous national and international awards, including the Ondas Award for Best Documentary, the Acción Award for Best Documentary Direction, the “Cultura contra la Violencia Machista” Award from the Ministry of Equality, and the DuPont-Columbia Award in New York.
Previously, Almudena directed and produced El Silencio de Otros, which received over 40 international awards, including the Audience Award at the Berlinale, the Goya Award for Best Documentary Feature, an Emmy for Best Documentary, and was shortlisted for the Oscars. She had previously won another Emmy for her debut feature documentary, Made in L.A.
Almudena has received numerous recognitions, including Guggenheim Fellow, Creative Capital Fellow, Sundance Time Warner Documentary Fellow, United States Artists Fellow, and she has been named Doctor Honoris Causa by Illinois Wesleyan University. For the past ten years, she has been teaching documentary filmmaking at New York University in Madrid. She has served as a jury member at numerous festivals, including the Seminci in Valladolid and FICX in Gijón, and she is a board member of CIMA, where she created the CIMA Mentoring 1to1 program. She is also a member of the Spanish Film Academy, the European Film Academy, and the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
